My time as a buying + social media intern
This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work with BitterSweet, a Richmond-based boutique, as a buying and social media intern. The experience gave me invaluable insights into the fashion industry and ignited my passion for its dynamic blend of creativity and strategy.
My major responsibilities included creating engaging social media content, assisting with buying tasks, online merchandising, and supporting photoshoots. One of the most rewarding projects I led was curating the Fall/Winter 2024 product assortment. This taught me how to balance trends with BitterSweet’s unique aesthetic while ensuring the collection met high standards of quality and resonated with our customers.
I also successfully took the lead in online merchandising new arrivals, using Shopify to learn the behind-the-scenes intricacies of running a functional e-commerce site. This hands-on experience sharpened my skills in organization, attention to detail, and customer-focused design.
Beyond that, I immersed myself in behind-the-scenes work, from assisting at photoshoots to creating relatable TikTok content that connected with customers in relatable yet meaningful ways. These experiences gave me a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of running a retail business and the power of storytelling in fashion. My time at BitterSweet not only sharpened my skills but ignited my love for the fashion industry. I’m excited to carry these lessons into the next phase of my career, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities.
